Best Farm, Monocacy National Battlefield

Hi All,

I stopped by the farm yesterday to see what was going on. They had 2
units open on the midden pile. The cool thing is that they might have found a
well. There is an arc in the corner of one of the units that looks like a well
that could be about 9' in circumference. There is evidence of "brick robbing"
in other words the well assumingly abandoned, the bricks were reused for
something else.

The other unit where there was evidence of a feature has a half unit
opened on two side that showed more evidence of some type of structure.
Another unit was opened by Stephen Potter while I was there that would be inside the
feature boundaries.

The Urbana Historical Society will have Joy Beasley, the director of the
excavations, giving a presentation Tuesday evening at 7:00 at the old school
house on Park View & Rt. 80. It should be informative!

Yesterday there were a small gathering of NPS folks and other visitors
including Stephen checking things out.

Monocacy folks who were there this week that I know of were; George, Gil
House, Maxine, Nancy & myself. A good representation for our club!

Mary-Ellen
